Geez, it feels like forever since I posted last. I also wanted to apologize for my lack of commenting back to people who have commented. I’ve been very rude and didn’t mean to ignore anyone.
Work has been slowing down, with the shorter days and cooler weather. I also booked Bens ticket home for the 23rd of November… I’m excited that he’ll be home in time for Thanksgiving. I was worried about how I was going to get the Christmas tree in the house and up without him here. So it was a relief to hear he’ll be home in a couple of weeks. Not to mention that I just miss the guy… it gets lonely and a bit boring without him here.
On a side note…. Online Christmas shopping has begun around here. Seriously living in Alaska, you can’t run to the store when you need something. Everything has to be very planned. For example last month I ordered 300 brown cupcake liners. No one in town sells brown ones and I really need them for the cupcake project my sister and I are doing for Holiday gifts this year. I already have my photo Christmas cards.

It’s our tradition to get all the kids on both sides of our families pjs and books for Christmas. The oldest kid is 10 so these are still okay. Well last night I got online and order 6 pairs of pjs. It doesn’t even seem odd to be ordering holiday gifts the first week of November.
This weekend has been consumed with a swim club fundraiser. They are putting on a “cafe” at a Festival that our town has every fall. It’s called Whale Fest.,and lots of people from all over the country come to town for it. There are lectures, vendors, whale watching cruises, and a 5k (touchy subject right now… I’ll get to that later). It’s a pretty big event in our small community. I told my sister I would make the Halibut chowder for the soup cafe. We underestimated how much people were going to like the soups and I have probably spent 10 hours in the kitchen chopping, stirring, sprinkling, washing dishes, and grocery shopping. As of today I have made 8 big crock pots of Halibut Chowder, 2 of Thai Pumpkin Soup, and 1 Creamy White Bean Turkey soup.
It’s been a soup making adventure. I just keep telling myself it’s for the kids, and honestly I didn’t have anything else to do this weekend.
Okay onto the 5K. You remember the one I’ve been training 5 weeks for to beat my time of last year. Well last year it was on Sunday… apparently unbeknownst to me this year it was Saturday. Yes, I missed the run. I probably still wouldn’t know I missed it unless I had read someone's comment on Facebook who did the run. I seriously wanted to cry when I read the comment, and then I wanted a donut! So my plan is to go to the course with my Garmin and run it on my own. I’m not sure if not being in a race environment will affect my time positively or negatively?I’m calling it my mock 5K. I’ll be back later with a race recap .
Please tell me I’m not the only one who has miss read a date or time and missed a race you trained for?
